11 Day Photographic & History Safari - South Africa

Whether you are a professional or an amateur photographer, a photo safari experience in South Africa is unparalleled to anywhere else in the world. With Africa’s landscapes and wildlife as your subject, there’s something new to capture around every corner.

Day 1:

Arrival ORT International Airport Depart for Marakele National Park, Big 5 present. We will arrive early enough to do an afternoon game drive. En route, pass through the picturesque Hartebeespoortdam, the towns of Brits (farming community) and Thabazimbi, meaning (Mountain of Iron). Light lunch en route - your account. Overnight Bontle Rest Camp.Enjoy a typical South African “braai” (BBQ) and savour your first glass of SA red wine around the fire.

 

Day 2:

After a light breakfast of tea/coffee, rusks and muffins, depart for Mapungubwe National Park, Big 5 present. The lost City of Mapungubwe built around 1045 AD was declared a Heritage site in 2003. One of the most rewarding finds was the “Golden Rhino”. En route, we pass through the small town of Alldays, the hub of Big Game trophy hunters. Light lunch on route - your account. Spend two nights in a Rest Camp. Enjoy dinner in the local restaurant- for your account.

 

Day 3:

After breakfast, visit some interesting archaeological sites. Start looking for some of the large migrating tuskers and evasive leopard of the area. Lunch will be at leisure - own account. Go on a walking safari and explore Mapungubwe Hill with a local guide. The rest of the afternoon will be at leisure. Enjoy dinner in the local restaurant – your account.

 

Day 4:

After breakfast, we depart for the northern confluence of the Limpopo. En route, pass the town of Musina, the most northern border of South Africa to Zimbabwe. Light lunch on route - own account. On route to our destination, explore the area and enjoy game viewing. Reach Singa Safari Lodge late afternoon. The lodge is self-catering. One of the reasons to visit here is the fantastic views. Spend two nights in a Safari Lodge. Enjoy dinner in the boma.  Traditional South African Braai style.

 

Day 5: 

After breakfast, start to explore the areas on the banks of the Luvuvhu River. Some of the most beautiful and scenic areas. Lunch will be in the form of light snacks. Visit the Mutale Falls and Mutale tented campsite in the Mukato Game Reserve. Do a private game drive in the reserve. Return late afternoon for a romantic sunset - glass of wine on the deck overlooking the Luvuvhu River. 

Dinner will be around the fire in the Boma.

 

Day 6:

 

Depart Singo after breakfast and travel to Pafuri gate, enter the Kruger National Park. Explore one of the oldest ivory routes of long forgotten travelers; visit Crooks Corner on the confluence of the Limpopo and Luvuvhu Rivers that act as the borders between South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Animal life on route is described as some of the best in northern Kruger. The Fever and Jackal berry tree forests is awesome. On route, stop for a leg stretch at Punda Maria rest camp. Lunch will again be en route - your account. Head for Shingwedzi. En route, drive through the savannah of northern Kruger where encounters of large migrating Elephant and Buffalo herds are recorded. Arrive Shingwedzi late afternoon. Overnight in Shingwedzi. Dinner will be around the fire.


Day 7:

 

Coffee/tea, rusks and muffins for breakfast. Depart and still travel through the grasslands of Central Kruger. The Big 5 is now on the viewing list. The area is also the hunting grounds of the cheetah. Stop at Mopani rest camp for leg stretch and something to nibble. Head for Letaba Rest Camp on the banks of the Letaba River. Reach Letaba late afternoon. Overnight Letaba. Dinner in the local restaurant - your account

 

Day 8:

 

Breakfast in the restaurant, explore The Elephant Hall, then take a game drive to Masorini, near Phalaborwa gate; it is a reconstructed Ba-Phalaborwa hill village, with huts, grain storage areas, and an iron-smelting site. "Ba-Phalaborwa", a name given to the area by the Sotho tribes who moved there from the south, means better than the south. The Sotho mined and smelted copper and iron ore in this area stem from as far back as 400 AD. We visit the famous Amarula factory, and the massive open pit mine, which is Africa's widest man-made hole at almost 2,000 meters wide. Exit Kruger at approx lunchtime. Book-into the Hotel in the afternoon. Spend two nights at a bushveld lodge. Dinner in town – own account.

 

Day 9:

 

Breakfast, then drive out to Mtomeni in the Letaba Ranch area. Unfenced from Kruger, Letaba Ranch is well known for its large herds of elephant and buffalo. The reserve is also a hot spot for African Wild Dog sightings. Enjoy an open vehicle game drive in the reserve. Lunch will be in the form of lunch packs or snacks. Some of the best photographic opportunities lies within the ranch area.

Return late afternoon.  Dinner will be at the lodge – own account.
 

Day 10:

 

Breakfast, and depart for Pretoria. Plus minus 5-hour drive - Stop at your discretion for your last photographic shots.Reach Centurion late afternoon - Overnight in Boutique Hotel - B & B  The Hotel is known for its first class cuisine.

           

Day 11:

 

Breakfast in your beautiful surrounds at leisure. We collect you at around 09:30am - take you to an outlet where traditional African and South African hand-made pieces can be bought OR visit the Union Buildings – Statue of Mr Mandela (unveiled after his death). Transfer to ORT International Airport
